The Sharp Canyon
property can be accessed from Interstate 70, off Exit 180, head south
on U.S. Route 191 for 54 miles to La Sal Junction, head east on State
Route 46 for 15 miles to where the road starts to follow La Sal Creek,
turn southeast onto a good gravel road (sign posted as the Wray Mesa
Road) heading up to and on top of the mesa for about five miles; the
property is about half a mile to the north and is crossed by several
gravel and dirt tracks. Elevations on the Sharp Canyon property range
from about 7,400 feet at the mesa top to 6,400 feet in the canyon. Precipitation
is perhaps 20 – 25 inches per year, with heavy snowfalls possible
in winter. Parts of the mesa top are forested with tall trees, ponderosa
pine and canyon oak, grading down to pinion pine and juniper, and areas
of sparse scrub brush.
There
are at least two old mines within the boundaries of the Sharp Canyon
property, associated with the previously active La Sal Creek district.
